Hong Kong , 26 June 2008:
V.M.T.Mohamed Hasan & Pirabu Shuhaib on-behalf of the
members of Indian Union Muslim League in Hong Kong,
has issued the following Statement:
“We deeply mourn the sudden demise of our Great
National Leader Janab Haji Gulam Mahmood Banatwala
Sahib (President of Indian Union Muslim League), age
of 74 on 25th June 2008 at his Bombay Residence. As
an irreparable loss to the Community. Inna Lillahi Wa
Inna Ilaihi Razioon..
Honourable “Mujahida Millath” Banatwala Sahib, as he
was friendly called, played long role in the national
and Muslim politics. A member of Parliament for
decades, he was associated with every struggle of the
Muslim community for security and dignity, equality
and justice, whether it was the movement for the
defence of the Shariat against any interference by the
Executive, the Legislature or the Judiciary, the
movement for the restoration of the Babari Masjid, as
a member of the Babari Masjid Movement Coordination
Committee or the Movement for the Empowerment of
Muslim Indians. A spell-binding speaker in Urdu &
English, he had the entire country as his field of
action. In every sense of the term, he was a pillar of
the Muslim community.
A gifted parliamentarian & national face of the
minority community.
He had exceptionally clear perception on minority
politics. As an MP for seven terms, he outshone many
politicians in dealing with the minority issues at
national level. He could convert even a private bill
into a Parliamentary law; such was his caliber as a
parliamentarian.
Today that pillar has fallen; the stirring voice has
fallen silent.
We, members of the Indian Union Muslim League in Hong
Kong, pays its sincere tribute to him as one of the
greatest leaders of the Muslim community after
independence and prays to Allah to accept his services
to the community and grant him eternal peace and
offers its condolences to the members of the bereaved
family and his admirers and followers all over the
country.
