Welfare aid distributed to 90 beneficiaries

VELLORE: Distribution of welfare aids worth about Rs.9.26 lakh to 90 beneficiaries living below the poverty line, `best government servant’ awards to 56 government officials, and laptop computers totally worth Rs.10.50 lakh to 35 students who scored high marks in the March/April 2009 Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) public examinations (with Tamil as the first language) marked the Independence Day celebrations in Vellore on Saturday.
C. Rajendran, District Collector, hoisted the national flag and took the salute at a guard of honour by the Armed Reserve policemen at the Government Nethaji Stadium. He went over to the seats where freedom fighters were seated and honoured them with shawls. He, later, distributed loan-cum-subsidy worth Rs.2.60 lakh to two persons on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) for the purchase of autorickshaws, marriage assistance worth Rs.two lakh to 10 beneficiaries under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammayar Scheme, fixed deposit receipts of the Tamil Nadu Power Finance Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited totally worth Rs.1,21,600 (Rs.15,200 each) to eight girl children under the Sivakami Ammayar Memorial Girl Child Protection Scheme, Rs.80,000 to four couples under the Anjugam Ammayar Memorial Inter-Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme, Rs.37,500 to three dependents of persons who had a natural death, under the social protection scheme, motorised tricycles worth Rs.70,000 to two persons with disability, total marriage assistance of Rs.15,000 to three ex-servicemen, iron boxes worth Rs.24,000 to 10 persons and sewing machines worth Rs.16,100 to seven beneficiaries.
